Beyond space
There is a house that was built in the seventies of the previous century. The owner, who grew up in it, decided to let in a breath of fresh air, renovate it, and adapt it to a more modern way of living. After a multi-year process from the conception of the first ideas, demolishing walls, to the selection and installation of new interior furnishings, it was time for the team of architects from the Gao office to take one last stroll through the spaces, make decorative adjustments, and prepare the dwelling for professional photography. The owner of the house, who welcomes the Gao architect team, film crew, and photographer into the house, is unaware that he is also opening the doors to three curious ghosts.
While the team of architects and photographer (Miran Kambič) carries out their work, they are followed by and playfully disturbed by three ghosts who, with each passing moment, feel more at home in the house. The ghosts curiously explore the spaces, take possession of personal items, socialize with the Dalmatian, and enjoy the comfort of the new furnishings.
Director Nejc Gazvoda (Nostos, Creative Production) has framed the story through the prism of humor and surrealism. In addition to highlighting the advantages of the interior design by the GAO bureau, the story also tells that beautiful things remain behind us and resonate long after we are gone.
The word "gao," originating from Chinese, translates to "beyond" and is the identity and most recognizable characteristic of the GAO office, which is committed to designing beyond boundaries. The short film "Beyond Space" reflects with each frame what GAO actually is, how it operates, surprises, concludes... And if you were to add subtitles to the short film, they would read: "When you open the doors to GAO architects, you open the doors to an experience beyond and can expect the unexpected, certainly a new dimension of living."
Director Nejc Gazvoda on the project:
"In promotional videos for companies, I have always been bothered by the lack of originality, often consisting of beautiful shots of whatever, without a purpose for repeated viewing or a specific idea. The GAO bureau team allowed me to be original in the concept, resulting in a different promotional video, a short film that uses the element of three house ghosts to present an exceptional interior in a different way and, at the same time, provides a broader reflection on our living and its transience. Collaboration with established and new collaborators produced a result that goes beyond the usual video and, as such, required courage from the client, which is rare in our space. The short film serves the presentation of the interior but is a standalone product that subtly speaks about the eternal and inevitable fate of humanity. But if it's beyond, let it be."
At the 11th Conference on the Future, the DIGGIT event jury awarded a recognition or special mention to the presentation video "Beyond Space."
